The GPIb-V-IX complex binds [[von Willebrand factor]], allowing [[platelet adhesion]] and [[platelet plug]] formation at sites of vascular injury. Glycoprotein Ibα (GPIbα) is the major ligand-binding subunit of the GPIb-V-IX complex.
